There are several fascinating situations arising in the region with the potential to reshape the business and economic situation in eastern England.
At the heart of it is the question of the expansion of Stansted Airport within the context of airport policy in the UK. Clearly, there is substantial potential for expanding air freight which fits in with a general picture of logistics covering the new London Gateway and existing facilities at Felixstowe.
That process will be helped by the upgrading of the A14 road but there is also the need, as we discuss in the magazine, for better train services, particularly to Cambridge. This world class university city is also an important cog in the push for faster economic growth in the region.
On the surface it appears to be losing ground to Tech City in London, but it still has a conveyor belt of new ideas and inventions coming out of the university.
Jealous of its position, the university has large development plans to maintain its status.
Another part of the equation in the region is the evidence of a development push east, as indicated by the Financial Conduct Authority moving into a large building in Stratford.
Here Crossrail is playing a part in the decision as it will in a wide area of the south east.
Extending it to Stansted has become an objective for some property professionals in eastern England, so linking it to Heathrow via Stratford.
Without doubt the large new transport projects for the south east, including HS2, are going to change the face of the business world.
