For a host of economic reasons, Manchester continues to improve its international standing.
Apart from a number of natural advantages, the city keeps the promotion pace going, whether it be lobbying Parliament or an expanded presence at MIPIM.
It simply does not relax its efforts to grow.
We have seen that in the past with the Metrolink system and the refusal to slow its expansion despite government pressure. Now we have HS2 on the horizon which not only boosts the city but does wonders for the airport.
In this scenario, the vital role of Crewe on the railway line should not be ignored because that will have its own influence on Cheshire and help the nearby pottery towns at Stoke.
It would appear that despite the change of personnel in the government, the concept of the Northern Powerhouse is alive and well. It could be argued that there is no alternative to this as a fulcrum for changing the north and boosting economic growth.
There are other parts of the country that would like that dynamic and plenty of people in the south that actually resent it. Manchester is perfectly equipped to drive the process forward and there is no slackening in its efforts to change the existing situation.
